The First Conversation

Mistress Selene watched Keith across the small restaurant table as he finished his wine.

They had been seeing each other for a few weeks now. Dinner dates, quiet conversations, long walks afterward. Keith was thoughtful, attentive, and surprisingly easy to talk to. There was an ease to him that Selene appreciated.

But there was something he didn’t know.

And Selene had reached the point where she believed he should.

Keith leaned back in his chair. “You’re quiet tonight.”

Selene smiled slightly. “I’m thinking.”

“That sounds dangerous.”

“Only sometimes.”

She rested her hands lightly on the table and studied him for a moment.

“Keith, there’s something about my life I haven’t told you yet.”

His expression shifted—not alarmed, but curious.

“That sounds serious.”

“It’s important,” she said calmly. “And I’d rather tell you now than let you discover it later and feel like I hid it.”

Keith nodded slowly.

“Alright.”

Selene chose her words carefully.

“I live a lifestyle that most people don’t encounter unless they go looking for it.”

He waited.

“I’m a Dominant,” she continued. “More specifically, a Mistress in the BDSM community.”

Keith blinked once.

Then again.

Selene expected shock. Maybe even a nervous laugh.

Instead, he simply asked, “And what exactly does that mean?”

She appreciated the question.

“It means I practice consensual power exchange. I have partners who choose to submit to my authority in certain dynamics. It involves trust, rules, and responsibility.”

Keith leaned forward slightly, resting his forearms on the table.

“So this isn’t… a joke.”

“No.”

“And it’s not something from your past.”

“No,” Selene said gently. “It’s very much part of my life.”

He sat quietly for a moment, processing.

Selene watched him carefully. She had had this conversation before, and reactions varied widely.

Finally he said, “You don’t seem embarrassed about it.”

“I’m not.”

“Good,” he said simply.

That surprised her.

Keith rubbed the back of his neck.

“I’ll admit I don’t know much about that world,” he said. “Most people don’t exactly discuss it at the office.”

Selene laughed softly.

“That’s fair.”

“But I do have a question.”

“Go ahead.”

Keith met her eyes.

“Why tell me now?”

Selene held his gaze.

“Because I enjoy spending time with you. And if this continues, you deserve to know who you’re dating.”

“And if I said it made me uncomfortable?”

“Then we would finish our wine,” she said gently, “and I would wish you well.”

Keith studied her face for a moment.

“You’re serious.”

“I always am about this.”

He leaned back again, thoughtful.

“Can I ask something else?”

“Of course.”

“What does someone have to do to… be part of that world with you?”

Selene tilted her head slightly.

“That depends.”

“On what?”

“On the person.”

Keith chuckled quietly.

“That sounds like a test.”

“It might be.”

Silence stretched between them, but it was not uncomfortable.

Finally Keith said, “I’m not saying I’m ready to sign up for anything.”

“I wouldn’t expect you to.”

“But I am curious.”

Selene raised an eyebrow.

“Curious can be dangerous.”

“Or interesting.”

She smiled.

“That’s also true.”

Keith looked at her with a thoughtful expression.

“So if someone were curious… where would they start?”

Selene held his gaze for a long moment.

Then she said calmly,

“By asking questions.”

Keith nodded slowly.

“I think I can handle that.”

Selene lifted her wine glass.

“In that case,” she said softly, “our conversation is just beginning.”
