When Magic Needs Maintenance
Magic is often treated as though once a working is complete, the job is finished. You enchant the object. You build the device. You charge the talisman. You bind the spell into the mechanism. Then, theoretically, it continues doing exactly what you intended. That sounds wonderfully convenient. It is also probably unrealistic. Anything that is used regularly changes over time.
